AWAY AT SEA
It takes strength and sensitivity to be part of this world. Courage and versatility. There is a sense of ritual in the work, an affinity with both nature and the elements, and a camaraderie between those who have chosen this life. The outward strength of our divers – obvious in the physical demands this work requires – is balanced by an internal elegance born of their affinity with nature.
The pearl is the symbol of this duality, the connection between the masculine and feminine. A symbol of love. The ultimate prize.
Sleek in their black wetsuits, our divers enter the underwater world – their parallel universe. They search the ocean floor, collecting Pinctada maxima pearl oysters by hand, working in tandem with Mother Nature to ensure that these two worlds can coexist in harmony.
The Dive Collection celebrates our divers and the depths they navigate. It includes the Entwine Set, which is inspired by the twists and texture of the nautical ropes found on board our pearling luggers. For the diver, it is also a reminder of being entwined with his lover; the memory of their last embrace is one that sustains him while they are apart. The ring his lover wears is her keepsake, its pearls a reminder of his dual passions, and a token of his love for her.
For the diver, the ruggedness of daily life at sea is softened by the memory of their time together. His is a world of contrasts, the masculine and feminine, land and sea. The pearl is at the centre of it all. Only by being away at sea can our divers bring Paspaley South Sea Pearls to the world, and to those we love.
