The Paspaley family’s commission of 500 works by leading Indigenous Australian artists has been featured in Vogue Australia January 2021 edition.
The four-page editorial spread details the Paspaley family’s engagement with remote art centres in Indigenous communities to showcase Australian talent when sourcing artworks for a new hotel in New York.
Working with APY Art Centre Collective, the Paspaley family commissioned the works from leading Australian artists Peter Mungkuri, Betty Muffler, Wawiriya Burton and Matjangka Norris.
Paspaley family members James Paspaley and Mia Bracher explain the process of creating this unique collection and how the ethical acquisition of artworks from Indigenous owned and operated art centres, like APY Art Collective, can significantly benefit the lives of Indigenous people in remote communities - stimulating economic growth, supporting cultural practice and showcasing extraordinary Australian artistic talent to the world.
